I just got done looking at your webpage John and must say great job... And thanks for the idea about the dimmer switch on the brooder  ill have one on mine before the end of the day...Just one question ?  i watched your videos and seen you have all your birds mixed together   A/M  Fawns and Browns how do you keep from  cross breeding and getting mixed chicks  or was that pen all males? Anyway i really enjoyed it and very nice work........Max

Thanks MAX,
Those are a mixed up lot.  I have chicks from those (a little more than a week old) and I'll let you know if I have A&M Tibetans or Brown Italians.  Folks on this site said that they will cross, so I'll just have some mixed up quail for the Arctic training camp.

BTW, you'll have to  play with adjusting by dimmer because it's not linear.  A 1/4 turn one time might be 1/8 next time.

I think I'll finish that pen today and get those pictures up online.

Hey John,

Never did hear from you as to how the brooder worked out after you got it finished?  Did you have to do any modifications?

Howdy!
It's working great! The only modification I needed was to add handles to the 4 corners so it can be picked up easily. And I found out that 52 Jumbo chix can poop faster than it can fall through that 1/4" wire! Started building up so I moved them to the middle school pens early.

I built a couple of rollout pens like GSC showed and learned a few tricks. I also promised peak2095 that I would get those up here.

I have been reading the posts on this site for awhile now and with all the knowledge that I have gained I made a rollout pen using the ideas that I got from different places. I think that it came out pretty good if I should say so myself. Here is a link to some pics. Thanks to everyone for the help when I needed it.

Its probably because I just made it today. So maybe check back at a later time and it should be better.
