chick starter feed

I hatched about 1200 jumbo quail out the first 4-5 weeks I had to pick up 2-3 chick about every few days.I talked to another breeder that raised birds .He said he was doing the same till he started regrinding his chick feed.He has no problem now.How about you guys have you had this happening.

I've always (which isn't all that long) put my chick starter through a food processor for the first week and haven't any problems with chicks dying.  Coincidence or not, I'll probably keep doing it.

Always grind your starter up to almost a powder for a lease the first week.  Jim

What do you use to regrind your feed with.I was told you could use a garbage disposal to do the job.I have to try something.Cannot lose as many out of this batch. How long does it take to grind 50lb with the food processor.

I use a blender and it works SLICK!!!

I have an old coffee grinder from a grocery store. Grind for chicks to the consistancy of coffee grounds, takes me about 15 min. to grind 50#. that thing is slick, also adjustable for different sizes... Russ

I went to Walmart and $15 later, had a brand new coffee grinder.  Works great.
