Hi,
I read from a hatchery that people shouldnt feed fruits to hens because it causes them to stop producing eggs, and it said that it takes about 6 weeks for them to start producing eggs again.  Does anybody know if this is really true?, because since i read this i havent fed my birds fruits but i want to give it to them because its  healthy for them, i dont know what i should do

Wrong... it's perfectly fine to feed them fruits and vegetables. Squash, pumpkin, blueberries (which my bobwhites LOVED), strawberries, etc.

balanced diet = more eggs :D

of course if you feed em too much fruit etc, you will have a big mess to clean up -__-;

i always regarded fruit more of a treat, but vegetables--especially greens that they could potentially come across "in the wild"-- are a good way to go for food (in addition to regular feed).

also, if you're really out for more eggs, look up posts having to do with light hours and calcium supplements.

g'luck!

They are great supplements to a diet... they supply some essential vitamins and acids that the birds don't get from most manufactured feeds.

I feed mine grass clippings in the spring summer months whenever I mow the lawn. They love it, and it hasn't affected their egg production.

Hello, I have found that when I move my birds around or if for some reason they slow down laying, I'll give them grass,weeds, or even boiled eggs. They love it and they start thrownig out eggs. Thanks, and GOD BLESS
