I put it in the water for about a week at a time, I don't think it matters even if they have it all the time. I do give it to new hatches. You can get it at most farm supply stores under different brand names. Mostly it is sold for chickens.

What I use (vitamins and electolytes) specifies that it is for use with swine, cows, lambs, poultry, chickens, turkey. I don't know if what you are describing can be used for poultry or not, it may all be the same stuff for all I know, but I would check to make sure. You can also order it from many different suppliers on-line also.

I can't say whether or not this is the proper method or not, but I rotate it when I change out the water.........electrolytes/vitamins, then clean water, electrolytes/vitamins, and so forth and then not so often once I remove them from the brooder. But than again I also only keep mine up to 5 weeks of age.
