Transportation permits

1. You are required to obtain a transportation permit prior to importing or transporting live gamebirds or their viable eggs into or through the commonwealth of Kentucky. Exception- Unviable eggs imported for human consumption are not considered "live wildlife" and do not require a transportation permit. 2. A certificate of veterinary inspection must accompany a shipment of live gamebirds or eggs for the transportation permit to be valid. 3. All importation of live gamebirds or eggs must also comply with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's regulations concerning salmonella pullorum and avian influenza (KAR 20:040, 20:250). 4. By regulation 50 or fewer northen bobwhite may be possessed for personal use without a captive wildlife permit, provided the birds are not propagated or sold. THIS DOES NOT provide an exemption to acquiring a transportation permit for importing or transporting live gamebirds or their eggs into or through the state, (KAR 2:081) 5. Transportation permits are only required for importation or transportation of wildlife into or through Kentucky from out-of-state sources. If you acquire live gamebirds or their eggs from a legal source within Kentucky, you do not require a transportation permit.
