Had a pair back in the early 90s.
This fellow is about 9 - 10 years old in these pictures.
About a 12' - 14' spread.

Ordered a three year old pair today.  Likely pick them up in about a week   tu2

All those "new" colors have come by via inbreeding etc.
I won't have anything to do with them.
The only "natural" mutation (that I'm aware of) is the Blackshoulder.
Not sure where the White's come in....... ?

He has settled in and "screaming" lots now !

Loud vehicles and some other noises will "set him off" as well.  s020

Will they hatch eggs on their own in captivity?

You bet ! I'm leaving the eggs for her. Way too lazy to break out incubators at my place  s020

Built her (this morning) a new nest box. I covered the bottom with about 1.5 - 2" of sand, then hay. I want to help her keep the eggs from cracking on the floor.
Had thought she would lay under the Cedars......

On this note......

If one watches their birds they'll know when they will lay an egg. I always knew when any species I've kept was about to lay, like yesterday with this hen. She was going in/out of the building non stop. Told the Wife she was going to lay and checked this morning.....and she had one.

OK, I hit the quote/reply button before reading.... but why not let the Pea hens hatch their own ?

My hen has laid three eggs so far, but one was broken and they had a snack of it. I left the other two to see if they are egg eaters. So far, no problem.

The broody Golden is still sitting. Decided to let her hatch them.....for meat birds. The hen is not breeding quality. I picked her up as she was the only one I could find this spring. Keeps the male busy !  s020
