Breeding Bobs

First year on Bobs I raised from eggs last spring... They are in a small colony of 6 hens & 4 males....  Should I separate them out 1 on 1, and 2 on 1, or leave them in the group to breed? What is the best way? Thankx...

  One to two, or one to three in a roll out laying cage will be best for fertile egg production.  Colony breeding in a large pen would probably be a little better for the birds, although they might fight, some.  Colony breeding in a small cage would be a good way to thin your flock.

What is a good time for moving the birds from the covey into breeder pens?

  If using only natural light, I would wait for the first signs of breeding activity.  If your able to watch them from a distance, you may notice the males displaying.  And of course morning the hens is a sure sign.

  If using artificial light, try to get the light on them, where they are, and wait for breeding activity.  Otherwise, you'll have to confine them longer, and will want to start soon.

  In case you haven't found it here, or elsewhere, yet, you should increase the light gradually.  An hour at first, and add equally morning, and evening.
