A vitamin deficiency can also cause curled toes. I'll look up the one(s) and post them later.

Vitamin deficiency and curled toes.
Riboflavin: Diarrhea, retarded growth, poor hatchability, clubbed down embryos, poor egg production,
curled toe paralysis with toes curled inward
and hypertrophy of brachial and sciatic nerves.
Sources: Milk products, alfalfa leaf meal. meat meal, distiller's grains or solubles, rice polish, yeast, fish meal, and synthetic riboflavin.
Roboflavin is a water soluble vitamin.

thanks for the info, the little one passed away on his own soon after the post, so I didn't have to do the deed, but at least I know how to for future reference.
