When I bought my oyster grit it was mostly very large pieces, at least for quail they were. I got out a mason jar and a canning ring. I cut a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth to fit in the ring and filled the jar with grit. shake for a bit in a bucket or large cup and you have oyster grit the quail can handle without getting out the hammer and making a mess.

did you ask the feed store if they had different grit sizes?

Then you have a lot of "waste" to deal with. Maybe crush it first with a rolling pin ?

I save time by getting the wife to crush it  :laugh: :angel:

There is no waste here. I can give the big grit to my chickens.
