For those wanting to go bigger and better with elevated floor flight pens, I thought they might have interest in seeing the stages of constructing one from beginning to end.

This is a design I came up with myself (patent pending).  It's held up very well over the years on the one beside this new one, that you can see in some of the pics, that I decided to build the new one identical to the older one (just taller and wider).

It's just shy of completion, but worth your viewing.  There are approx 45 pics and they are a little large in size so be patient while they load.

http://photos.yahoo.com/fozziesgamebirds     click folder "Flight Project 2006".

Enjoy.

Top netting arrived today.  This project will be wrapping up quickly....just as soon as I find the time to stretch and attach the netting.  Then it's time to fill it up with birds from the brood house.

Just for feedback....was everyone able to access the site to view the pictures?

Very nicely built pens.  Thanks for taking the time to post and allow our members the opportunity to view your setup.

Very nice. Pretty much the same design I will be doing when I build my new pens.

I got the pics. Looks great. I'm with JohninDixon..........there's not a piece of land flat enough on my place big enough for just one of those pens you have there. At the price of lumber, etc., I bet you have a small fortune in that?

Great pens. I imagine lots of work was put into them. I know a guy that own a gamebird farm pretty close to me and he has pens for his bobwhites around the same size as that. His are raised off the ground about 3 1/2ft. though and have a building connected to it that is raised about 3 1/2ft. also and is around 15x15x10. He has some very nice pens and a lot of money put into them.

Here is his site. He doesn't have pics. up of his pens, though he should.

hey,
great looking pens - had me worried there for a sec talkin about patenting. But can I ask you this - Why patent it? i have seem extremely similiar designs out there b4.
oh and my guess on the total price - i am not sure how long it is wide or tall
but i would say around $2360 in that pen ? am i any warmer
i know i had to buy 60 2x4x16s treated today for a pheasant pen - last week they was $7.56 a board this week they are over $8.30!!!!
p.s. gas went down $0.03 today!!!!!!!
oups
would like to see some pics of your birds in the new pen when it is done!

I was just joking about the "patent pending" comment...

You are definitely getting warm with that $$$ guess.

I made good headway yesterday with getting the netting stretched and attached.  I'll keep the pics updated as I continue to hit milestones with progress, which it's getting that time.  I'll definitely include some pics of the birds too.

At a minimum, I've got to get the netting finished, hiding places built, and the water system built and installed.  Then comes the birds from the brood house who are anxiously awaiting its completion.

GREAT pens Foz,  I do have the flat land to build about 3 or 4, but I'm not on as big of a scale as you are.  Maybe a smaller version in the future.  I didn't realize how big they were as far as height and space inside until I saw the picture of you standing in it and you're at least 5'8" to 6'0".

Very nice. I like the boards leaned sideways against the frame for cover. That is a good idea. The pen looks great. Now when will the birds be going in?
