I know this should be in the buy & sell, but not everyone reads that section.
Been thinking about building another V8 Pinto. I like the looks of the 71-73 small bumper ones.
Looking for one rust free or nearly so.
Do you know of any ? Even ones that are rusted out & sitting in a field: parts car(s).
Thought I'd toss this out, as we have a ton of members that cover a wide area of the States.
Other year Pintos ..... I may be interested in ?
If you do not want to post, send me a PM.
Note: I've done the Google thing lots. Looking for folks that have or have seen them sitting around.

Those things seem to have vanished along with the Chevette..............just don't see them around at all......anywhere!
What you really need is a 1970 Ford LTD 2dr coupe (I just happen to have one in my garage that I've owned for 30 years that I would sell to a good home).
-
70 LTD is a big heavy car that goes slow.
Pinto with big HP goes fast
May have found a Boss 302 (engine) with low original miles.

If this one was blue, it would be perfect !

Paint it!!!!!!
-
When/if I do one it will be completey stripped and painted in/on/around/under etc.
I like the one above, but it is way too scary to even start !
612 HP & turns in the 8s in a 1/4 mile.
I understand why there was a chute on it !
Guy that owns it is 68 & has been working on it to put it on the street !
I really like the narrowed diff & fatties on the back.
When/if I do another one, I'll do the same : except for the HP. 612 is too much fun s020

That thing reminds me of a Gremlin and a Triumph that a friend of mine had built back in the 80's. The Gremlin was a work of art and won best paint at every car show it went too. He even made his own interior. The Triumph never got completely finished after he took it for a test drive the first time.......300hp nitrious oxide on a well built 400 Chevy small block, complete with blower was too much for that small of car. The torque of the engine alone about flipped the car over. :-o It was wicked unsafe with just that engine, let alone with all the HP accesories to boot! It was tubbed out so much there wasn't much room left for the rear axle diff between the rear tires. He was disappointed with the handling of the monster and sold it unfinished. It was a neat looking machine though, would have liked to seen it painted.

Found a 76 in CA !
If all goes well, road trip this summer/fall !
-
Found another one in the next Province over !
Going to look at it this Thursday or Friday & if it is OK, bring it home.
Has many of the parts etc I need (guy already started a V8 swap) plus the original drive train.
He had done a lot of other work on it as well.
302w goes with it.
Looks like I'll be building two c50

Huge, huge waste of time !
I called and talked with the fellow before driving over. He said he chose that car due to it not having a rust problem.
Told me it is in good shape & that he had done lots of work on the interior.
So off I go on a road trip of over 1000 km, round trip.
I got there while he was still at work & got a good look at it.
The pan is so rusted out the seats are falling through the floor. If someone sat in a seat you would end up on the ground.
Rockers are completely ruted out & he filled them with expanding spray foam. Same with a pile of other holes.
It was in an accident at some past time, right front.
The inner fender was crudely sort of bent back. The front right tire sits about two inches back farther than the left side & nearly touches the back of the fender.
Car is junk. No idea how he got it in his head to try a V8 swap ! It is ready to buckle in half sitting there.
Then he tried to sell me the 302. It is out of an old truck. Never re-built. He put an Edelbrock Performer intake on it. For some completely unknown reason, he got an adapter plate & put a Quadrajet carb on it.
He wanted 300 for the engine. I passed on that.
The original engine & trans (auto) was taken out last summer & lay on it's side next to a fence. Claims it is a good engine.
Spedo cable hole open, facing up, for over a year now. It will be full of water, dirt & rust.
So, a 12 + hour trip for my health, I guess.
Really bugs me he knowingly lied to me......
Lots more was wrong with it but you get the point....

Heads are getting worked over. Plus new stainless valves & hardened exhaust seats. Guides....
Engine is in CA for the build.
-
Looking good there Buddy....when we going racing ?
-
Not sure I'll get it done this year.
Need a set of custom headers built.
Need some body work. Small stuff + the front of the rear wheel wells cut out so the Hoosier 29x18.50x15s will fit.
New paint. Not sure yet, but may do a color change.
Plus, I bought another Pinto !
The 302w & T-5 didn't sell. So I have most of what I need for a second build.
Going to try & not be radical on the 2nd build.......
-
FYI....
Dyno work done ! Came in @ 473 HP.
It was run without a windage tray. One is going into it though, so bump that up another 10 HP to 483 HP.
My carb is a 750 double pumper. If for some insane ( ck1 ) reason I want more HP , all I have to do is put an 850 double pumper on for.......over 500 HP.
Going to be one fun car to drive

Nice set up Reeves! Are you going to run Avgas?

No "real" choice on running AV gas. Motor has 10.8:1 compression.
Mild cam, but tons of head work.
Needless to say.....not a daily driver
It is .020 over & stroked. It is now a 345 ci.
Note: dyno was done on (premium) pump gas.

What's your premium up there 93? Does Canada require that you use ethanol? If so, what is the max %?
We have a couple of stations around here that still sell untainted ethanol free gas in 89 and 93.
Steve
-
I haven't bought gas in years. My truck is diesel & that comes free, with the work I do. So no idea on prices & not sure on octain.
I do think ours is much the same as yours.
Getting harder to find gas without Ethanol. But Sheel premium is free of it. We buy it for the all the small engines here. Tiller, ride on mower etc. Manuals say not to use Ethanol.
Plus it causes a host of problems with anything that goes into long storage.
Most I've seen in gas (and some diesels now) is 10%.
I'll be picking up a small tidy tank to pick up AV (etc) type fuels for my car.
I have about 6 miles of gravel road before the pavement. So I haul the car anyway. So no big deal on hauling fuel.
If I'm on a longer trip with the car, I'll carry an octain booster.

What the builder had to say:
345 Cu. In. pump gas 240 .590 cam Engine. I feel that the most important Dyno numbers are the BMEP,It tells you how efficent the engines is.Reeves ran in the 170s.Modern CHI/ AirFlow Research
head type engines run in those numbers.Very Happy.Mini Plenuim made peak Tq.@5500 423.H.P.@
6500 478 The Stock Intake really runs well.Tq.@4800 403.H.P.@6700 465 E-BOSS Tq@5100 416.
H.P.@6500 473 The E-Boss runs Very close to the Mini Plenuim, and has the best average..The OEM
intake really holds its own,and was the only one that liked to rev.to 7000RPMS and only lost 13HP
to the mini and held its Tq up to the E-Boss!! All Manifolds lost Tq,and gained NO H.P. with 1inch open spacers.E-Boss intake fit best on the engine with the OEM style Felpro1248 gasket. Checkout the videos..Hope this info helps..

In the 5 videos 4 are dyno runs. Last one shows my engine with "touching" the gas.
To de-code what he said.... I let him run a number of tests on my engine. He tried my E-BOSS intake, an OEM intake and a Mini Plenium. All the above with my 750 double pumper Holley.
What was not posted was that he also did tests with an 850 DP. With the 850 my engine would be over 500 HP. But the 750 will have better street manners.
So....
TQ @ 3000 RPM - 358
TQ @ 4000 RPM - 390
TQ @ 5100 (peak) - 414
Peak HP @6500 - 473
-
One more thing..... dyno was done without the windage tray (new one being installed today).
With the tray my HP is 483.
-
 I want to see this thing in action when you get 'er going! How's it going to steer with all that rubber on the ground trying to make it go straight?......or is straight all your concerned about?
-
Straight is all I'm concerned about : I'll slow down for corners
Plan for when the car is done to visit brother (old race guy) in Ont. next summer. Close to you. If money/time permits, I'll drop down into the States for a visit !

Engine finally back from CA !
Was test fitting the new water pump & pulleys. Pump is 1.5" shorter than normal, for more clearance. Problem is with the alt. No one makes brackets for a BOSS 302. I think I have it figured out though.
Air cleaner is not the one I'll be using.

I was going to wait to drop the engine in as I do not have the new bell yet. Was driving me crazy, so...
I went with a different oil pan. Means I have to lift the engine 1.25" or lower the steering rack. May need to alter the fire wall if raised. Will not be sure what I'll do till the new bell gets here.

Is that polished aluminum pulley that you took off in order to drop it in, where the hand crank goes?
