What medicine should I keep on hand for quail?
-
A good broad-spectrum antibiotic that I've used is terramycin. It allows you to take a shot-gun approach to treating a variety of bacterial infections such as chronic respiratory disease, air sac infection, and fowl cholera. Neomycin is used for colibacillosis and Bisol is used for enteritis. I haven't used the latter two but have heard from others that these were good medications for those specific ailments. Make sure to read all the warnings with regards to egg/meat consumption as some of these medications may render eggs/meat unsafe for human consumption. Keep in mind this is just the humble opinion of a small hobbyist, I am sure more the experienced hands here have thoughts as well to share.

also neosporin. trust me, they find very interresting ways to injure themselves..

I also keep a jar of vaseline close by and put it on their head when they've been picked on. Kinda like a boxer gets on his cuts. I put a thick coat on and it seems to help. If the attacking bird gets a taste of vaseline he seems to leave the hurt bird alone.

Thanks, I removed my quail eggs from the turner this morning 2/17.
Then placed them back in the incubator after it was filled with water.
It has been 20 days, how long before I should see them start to hatch?
-
what kind of quail? if they are bobs they should hatch on day 23
-
bobs

23 is right, just be patient though, I have had shipped eggs take as long as 28 days. Usually they pop right on time though.
-
today is 24 days, no quail still
-
Be patient and make sure the humidity is kept high.

thanks, I have water in both C and T channels in the plastic liner but I do not see moisture inside on the see thru windows like I have read that some people have??
-
are all the holes plugged on top of the incubator ?
-
both holes have the red plugs in them
-
I looked at the incubator when I got home this evening and no there are five holes
that are not plugged ( i guess this is where the fan would go). I put tape over the holes, do you think that the last 24 days were wasted?

Only more time will tell. Had you ever candled any of the eggs?

Never candled eggs before, but one hatched out last night about 1:00 and as of now at 742 am about 15 hatched and still popping out.
After I put the tape over the five holes the windows started building moisture, I don't no if it helped or not, I could just be impatient. ( very possible)

Sounds good. Although I don't know how many eggs that you were incubating, hopefully most of them will hatch.

I had 110 in the incubator and all but about 20 have hatched. They are still hatching but seem to be slowing down. I have not lost but one so I am very pleased and hope that the good luck keeps up.
The ones that I moved to my brooder started eating and drinking right away.

Be sure to drown proof your waterer. I use marbles to keep them from falling in. They peck in between them to get their drink.
