Title: Successful Dying of Embryos
Post by: njward on May 06, 2004, 06:07:00 PM
We read that embryos are occasionally dyed to differentiate between broods and wondered if anyone has attempted this with quail eggs. My daughter is doing this for a science fair project with Coturnix Quail eggs. Any suggestions or experience would be helpful. thanks.

We dye about 500 eggs a year for the local schools around Easter.  Never tried it on quail though.  Most quail are easily recognizable when they hatch out for the most part unless you mix the darker colored Coturnix together.  We have some pictures of our Easter chicks on our website below if you want to see how they turn out.  We use blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, and a neon color we've been experimenting with that has a glowing appearance in the dark.
