Hello everybody, this is my first post here! s144
I like the quail-specific forums.

I jumped in head first with Valleys, and bought 3 pairs.
Have since learned that I need a permit to raise them in Ca, so I got it and now am a lisenced gamebird breeder!

Was wondering if these Valleys will do as well as my coturnix in those 3-section breeding cages?
They are rather flighty compared to my coturnix.

I plan to house them in a large flight pen I have, but its coming into the laying season, and thought Id make things easier on myself for a coupla months and try the cages?

Are these quail just too flighty for the breeding cages?
Or, can multiple pairs be kept in the same large pen and be expected to produce fertile eggs?

Thankyou very much for your opinions!

If you only have 3 pair I would put them in seperate breeding pen which need to be 3ft x 4ft  for each pair with a enclosure at one end where they can hide when someone is around.

K, sounds good and Thanks!

What would you recommend as far as height?

I have to build my breeding pens this coming week . . .
Right now, they are all in the same 25x25x6 flight pen.
I put 4 cardboard boxes on their sides in the pen, all spread out, for cover.
I also trimmed my oak trees and put piles of brush/branches all around too.

I have gotten 1 egg in there since Ive had them, almost 2 weeks now.
As I understand it, we are just getting to the heavy laying season right now . . ?

2 to 3ft tall with a solid top. I would put a sheet of the 1in styrofoam sheets on top before the roof to keep them from killing themselves if they are spooked and fly straight up...it will save you some birds.
