Does anyone have any info on raising Stone Partridge (they are native to Western Africa)?  We have some pairs and would like to establish/ propogate them in captivity. Thanks for any input.

Hello,

Where did you get these partridge at?  I didn't know they were available in the USA.

Thanks for the reply.  We had the birds imported from Western Africa. To my knowledge this was only the second time the Stone Partridge have been brought to the States, but we are trying to find anyone that may have had previous working knowledge of the birds (here in the States or elsewhere).  Our goal is to find some breeders interested in helping to establish a captive bred population ensuring that future bird enthusiasts will be able to enjoy these partridge; and, we are discussing offering a very limited number of pairs for sale to these breeders.  Anyone interested may email myself at rtaconet@ntelos.net

When did you import them. From what I know they were imported many years ago but lines died out i guess cause i never heard anything more about them.  I am fairly sure some have imported them since.   Last I heard though noone had them in the USA to my knowledge. But seeing as you have them thats pretty cool.  How many birds & blood lines do you have?  And if you ever have any available feel free to contact me.  I wouldn't mind aquiring some.

quailer370,  There are regulations and lots of red tape, but when followed properly (with the right amount of U.S.currency) great things can be achieved!  :D

Thanks for the info. Do you have a contact that I could get in touch with? Maybe we could compare notes.  In the meantime, we are going to sell a couple of pairs to reliable breeders and set ours up for breeding.

Ron,

Did you ever breed any Stone Partridge from the birds you imported?

Hey good to hear from you again.  Yes, we have been very pleased with this year's results.  Several chicks hatched and growing and a couple of hens still laying as of this week.  We will be advertising some pairs for sale in the near future.
