We have been using Johnny Boxes at our quail lease for two years now.  The problem is when we open the door to release the birds they fly no more than 5 feet in front of the box.   We try to kick these birds up sometimes they fly a little bit further but not much.  We have three boxes that we are working with and at each site he birds do the same.  We are using Jumbo Wisconsin Quail that we hatch, brood and keep in a flight pen until we take them out to the boxes.  Any suggestions on how to get these darn birds to fly better?????????
