Hi all. I am in the process of buiding a recall pen and I made my version of the less mess watering system. I live in Indiana so the winters get somewhat cold, at least enough to freeze the water at some point. I am curious how all of you deal with freezing water. I had thought about putting heat tape around the pvc pipe but then obviously I would have to run electricity to the pen. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason

Mine like these : http://www.alliedprecision.com/petbowl.html
I have the blue plastic ones for the bigger birds. Been meaning to try the small ones for Quail.

I've used the same kind of thing.  I have also noticed that the birds eat quite a bit of snow.  I assume this is for the water.

Thanks guys. That looks like a good possibility if I can't come up with something for the less mess watering system. The only thing I could see a problem with is keeping it clean. How do you do that or do you just clean it often?

Anyone else using the less mess system in the cold weather?

Hey gsc, you wouldn't happen to be a member of the Pointing Lab website would you? I see some posts over there from a gsc and I know from one of my earlier posts that you had a PL too.

Winter I clean 2-3 times a week anyway.

Summer max every second day.

They need fresh clean cool water all day, every day.
