i had 7 cortinex eggs in the little yellow chick bator! which believe it or not i have had a lot of luck with! on monday a chick hatched he was doing fine all week today monkee as my 5 year old daughter named it died! he was belly up and had a large tumor like lump growing on his rear. which he kept pecking at? is this some kind of poultry disease? also i have 6 eggs left in bator being today is day 23 i checked 2 eggs first was yolk but i cracked second egg and wam a chick that was live but i killed it. i have 4 eggs left in there should i wait a few more days? they came from my 2 hen one male japanese quails! i can assure you the male is constantly mating. especially now that my other hen died yesterday! also i noticed that he would run then flip on his back a lot? i have that absorbent shredded cardbord that you buy in pet shop. never had a problem before with this.

what the heck? lols

YOu need to let the eggs  hatch on their own. Only when you see them trying to break out and it takes several hours that I would help.

I would loose the shredded cardboard. I wouldn't use any of that stuff for birds, including wood chips of any kind.

well he would run then be on his back and would take him a couple of minutes before he got up!  as far as cracking egg i did so only because its been 25 days and cortnex only take 17-18 days! still the 4 i have left not hatched yet!

I had a chicken that ran backwards and fell on its back for the first 2 days, then it figured it was safer to run forwards. and another had spraddle legs and we fixed it with a band-aid.

I would buy a hova-bator or little giant and use the chick bator for a lamp.
