1st bobwhite egg

Hello All,  I just got my 1st egg from my to the date 20 weeks old. I wonder how lond til the rest start up. I have them indoors and lites 24/7 hatched these out Iv'e got of these 54 hens, 18 roosters, this is my 1st time to raise from egg to laying i the bob's. The other's been my A&M's & my jumbo browns, they've sure been fed well "have reciepts" lol I'ts been hard I have 200+ 16 weeks gonna put them on lites within the next week or so. Sorry I don't do artificial lighting so I couldn't tell ya. But they are old enough.

Some birds will not lay off season even under lighting. i.e. the mountians and valleys. I think the bobs will lay for a while but not year round either cuz I dont notice any eggs for sale in the Winter. Mostly Coturnix will.

I don't raise bobs year round but have had a few hens over the years set on their own eggs and hatch young as late as September. That is when eggs are no longer being gathered and set in the incubator. My experience is they need a private place like a nest box if you want them to set on their own eggs. It's interesting how fertility holds up that late inthe season in some hens.
