When they are young the males will start to get white feathers around thier neck. And  the females dont. They will stay a more brownish patterned color.  I forget what age the start to show thier coloring but I think its close to 10 weeks old.  Im sure someone else here can help.  I havent riase them for a while now.  How old are the young pheasants?

ringnecks,

What you are discribing from the date of hatch, sounds like they are Melanistic Mutant Pheasant chicks.

When Melanistic chicks hatch, the solid brown color are the hens. The males are  black with white on the tips of there wings and white and black on there head and neck.

All Ring-necked Pheasants are basically the same in color when they hatch.

stanley roberts,

Anytime! Melanistics are easy to sex when they hatch. Again, hens are all brown in color.
