Title: Local Restrictions
Post by: CharlieHorse on October 10, 2006, 12:20:22 AM
Be aware that just because the state may issue you a permit, doesn't mean that your local government (City, Village) has to allow you to have the animals. Most cities have ordinances with restrictions on livestock and other animals. Also, local laws will usually apply outside of the city limits for a set amount of miles. My City has jurisdiction for 3 miles outside the city limits.

So it may be something that one may want to look into before putting a pile of money and work into pens, etc. and then have some code enforcement officer/health inspector come along a year or two or three later and tell you, "you can't be doing that".   That would really stink!  If you're going for a really small scale outside the City limits, you may slip through the cracks. Where I'm from nobody would say a word if my pen (small pen, around 200 sq. ft.) was up against the City limits line. But there's always someone out there that will have a problem with it if they found out.
