so, we hatched 4 quail 3 weeks ago as pets. 10days ago i got what we thought was a really bad stomach bug. Apparently i have salmonella, and the birds are in my room. Could i have caught it airborn from the birds, or would it only be from holding them, then eating without washing my hands inbetween? Now that i have it, i have an antibiotic or something to take, but now i'm going to wash my hands really good after holding them, but is it possible to catch anything from them airborn?

MochaChai,

Yes it is possible to catch airborne diseases from birds, but you probably got it from holding them and then eating.  ALWAYS wash your hands after handling ANY animal, even if you think it doesn't have diseases.  Many animals carry bacteria that don't affect them, but can harm other animals and humans.
