I'm working on getting my permit to get some bobwhite quail. I only want 12 or so bird and plan to use them for training dogs and egg production for my personal consumption. (I love pickled quail eggs.)

But I don't want to have to worry about getting eggs every day and chicks possibly hatching and all that.

The hens will lay eggs regardless of a male in the pen or not.  They just wont be fertile.  If you want eggs to eat then that would work out fine for you.  If you want to try and hatch them out your wasting your time.  Even if you have some males in the pen the likelihood of them hatching their own eggs is slim.
