First pictures are of how I built the sand/grit boxes.
I build a frame (treated wood, as it sits on ground). Then fill with drain rock.


Cover that with a felt like filter cloth.


Then build another frame on top. Sand will go in the center one.


















When including the L shape of the runs, it is 122 feet long.
Each run section has been built independently, as a 12'x12' section, yet all connected, for strength.
The building, divided in the center so it will hold two species.
Each species will have a total of 56 sq. ft. inside their house.
Thet will have 48 sq. ft. under the porch, sand bath area.
They'll have a run of 576 sq. ft. on open grass, for a grand total of 680 sq. ft. per species.
This aviary covers 1360 sq. ft. of ground.
Each side was planted (so far) with Brandon Cedars, Emerald Cedars and a Juniper.

Wire that will go on it will be the green PVC coated wire.

When finished, the Reeves will go in the north end, and Golden in the south end.

Then I'm going to completely re-build their present pen, including a new house.

Did you ever find a supplier for the PVC coated wire?

I've been in touch with two companies in China, and another one in the States that have the wire.
Waiting on a quote from the States company.

Got a reply (long time ago) from the States.
Won't be buying from them !
They think it's made of gold !

Forget the exact price, but with shipping it would likely have been about 400-500 dollars/100' roll !

GOOD LOOKING PENS HOW MANY BIRDS ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP IN IT?

Pair (or maybe trio) in each end. So, max, 6 birds.

Reeves I'm several months late but I must admit thats some great looking pens.  I'm considering building some additions such as that but I was always reluctant to have them on the ground.  Don't have much of a choice though because theres too much egg breakage from the bobwhites in the pens.  Coturnix I dont have the first problem with.

Finally put wire on it !

Moved a Golden pair into the south end last week, Reeves pair went into the north end yesterday !

680 sq. ft. for each species.....makes them look smaller 

Golden pair look "Lost in Space"   

I planted 5 Emerals Cedars in each end.....al winter killed. All the Brandon Cedars are doing very well.

More planting will go on the outside : Hops. Grow well/fast and provides lots of cover.

Push is on to build a new aviary , out of one of the green house frames. April 18/10 I picked up a pair of three year old Blackshoulder Peafowl.
