Has anyone ever converted a porta-potty into a quail recall pen?  I am picking up a john tomorrow to make an attempt at it.  It seems like it would be easy to clean from time to time by just hosing it out.  I figure I will need to tie it to a tree to make sure it doesn't tip over during a wind storm since it will be gutted and not have any liquid in it to weigh it down.

Those things get very hot inside if the sun shines on them at all.   You might want to cut out the sides some and cover with hardware cloth to allow for plenty of ventilation and put it in the shade.

Maybe you can put hardware cloth over the seat and train them to use it. Just kidding  nf1  ty2 Jim

sounds like it could work pretty good, i agree though that it could get very hot inside, but you will have to tell us how it goes once you get it up and running

I had my potty delivered today.  It hasn't been used in about 8 years and we took the tank out and sent it with the fellow that brought it. All you have to do to take the tank out is knock off about 10 rivetts with a chissel and hammer. When you remove the tank, it leaves half of the floor open. I will leave the floor half open with wire mesh over it and half with a solid floor. I will be adding a flight pen to it as well as a smaller catch/transfer pen. I will also enlarge the vents for extra ventilation. Should I build a recall pen in the bottom with a predator release, or just let them all recall to the whole house?
