From a design point of view, what is the maximum unsupported span for 1/2" hardware cloth such that you can still walk on it?  I've seen 19ga and 16ga wire for sale, is the 16ga better for this purpose?

Thanks

You should never walk on it.  Except in places with 2X4 or stronger support under your feet.  Generally, you'll want 4'X4' squares of support.  If you use 2', or 3' wide wire, adjust accordingly.  Use 2X6s on top, if you need access to other parts.  Do a search, look in "My Pens" thread.  There are several pictures of good set-ups.  They'll be easier to understand than my descriptions.

Never put your foot directly on the wire no matter what the span is...I use a 2x8 to walk in the only pen that I have that I can do it at all in. Less likely to fall off onto the wire.
