Hi, theres alot of people that own button quails as pets, but I'm wondering if any other species would make good pets also. There are several reasons that I don't like button quails including, they are aggressive, have short lifespans, etc. I don't know much about different quail/pheasant species so I was wondering if there is a type that matches my description. I want a bird that is pretty small, gregarious, and has a lifespan that is atleast 5 years. Thanks in advance!

Hi Amber, I found the coturnix family of quail to be the most placid, these ones are quite tame many different colours, they are a abit bigger than button quails but if your looking for a pet quail I would suggest this variety, as to there life span that really depends on the way they are look after, I have had buttons live to 8 years of age and I've burn some out with in 3 years as well, so it depends on the way you look after them diet and pen conditions

Thanks, I've considered them, but their lifespan is still very short.

I consider bobwhite quail small and they have a lifespan of 8-10 years. I just don't know if they would make good pets.

I have two bobs that are pets.  (they were they only two to hatch and got handled A LOT!)  They make fine pets.  They are actually freindlier than the parakeet.  So far they're 2 years old.  I think as long as you handle them right away the're ok pets.

coturnix make great pet quail

they live for 2-3 years which is better than your avergae hamster

i think by percentage though button quail are the most popular pet quail because they are so small and easy to take care of

they live 1-2 years right?
