Title: Ruffed Grouse
Post by: 1duckhtr on April 27, 2007, 10:32:40 AM
Does anyone know if you can purchase Ruffed Grouse eggs and if so, where. I am located in North Carolina and to my knowledge raising them is not regulated.

Thanks for any info!

Grouse are extremely difficult to raise so it is just not done.  The habitat is huge, and they do not like to be disturbed.  I've only seen a few adults offered for sale in magazines.  This means they are not commercially viable, nor are they seen in the hobby.

I concur.

Males need their own pen. Hens are put in the male's pen for breeding, under the keepers supervision. When the job is done, the hen has to go back to her pen, or the male will kill her.
Lots of other problems. Unless you have lots of pens, lots of time, best to steer away from them.
