I had hoped to have a sunny day to take a picture, but here in middle Tennessee we haven't had sun in over a week so here is a shot using the flash which drowns out a lot of his color.  You can still see the blue in the breast feathers, but you cannot see the purple.  He is a beautiful bird and I hope that he breeds true next spring.  I'm still wondering what he is a cross of

Wow goldenhaven, what a beautiful pheasant ,it looks like a melanistic mutant pheasant except with that white ring and towards the back near the tail area.

Yup that a cross. I got them as well.

They are classified as money birds to the shooting preserves.

Melanistic Cock crossed with a Ring-necked hen. He will continue to look like that. Get yourself an 6 Melanistic hens and put him in them.

It would be interesting to see how that hen would go over with Game Wardens, in Pheasant country.  Carcass with feathered head being transported.  I'd guess most would pass it as a young rooster.

I've seen the Bluebacks, but this is the first one I've seen with the Blue breast. Makes me wonder if you could produce a Blue all over crossing the Blue-backed with a Melanistic ?
