Hi,

I have some 7 week old quail. They are going bald. Just the back of the head. No blood not sign of injury. The skin is really dark where the feathers are missing. Doesn't look like they've been pecked.

They have been inside 99% of the time (it's getting cold here in Nova Scotia). Is it a lack of sun? I'm feeding them gamebird feed and corn right now.

Ideas?

Banging their heads on the top of the cage/pen?

dunno...are you sure they haven't been pecked?  the back of their head is really a hot spot for pecking.  or yeah, they could be flying up and banging their heads. pecking is just as likely though.
