I found a baby quail a bit smaller than a golf ball.  What should I do for it?  How old is it?  If I don't have a heating lamp, what should I do?  Food? Water?  Thanks!!

Sorry it's so late at night and so few people here. Since you only have ine you can use a regular light bulb. It sounds like it's probably about a week or so old and should still be kept at 85-90 degrees or it will not live.

Water in a very shallow container is a must so it doesn't get it in it's nostrils and drown. A small shallow jar lid with just a little water in it works but be care full that it doesn't get wet or it will chill.

A little corn meal might be ok to keep it going till morning. Your local feedmill or farm store should have "Chick Starter" but it has to be crushed for the little quails so they can swallow it.

A single chick is very hard to keep going since they get lonely. I've done it with a mirror hung on the side of the box to keep it company and it helps but if you can find someone with other chicks it would be the best bet for the little guy.

Hope this helps a little, good luck.
