Hello,
Just joined and I have some ?s about Gambrel quail -
We recently were in Arizona, and noticed these cute little birds.
So I got 7 eggs from eBay - they arrived today - and now my quail eggs are nestled safely in the incubator.

  Question:  I have the temp @ 99.5 to 100.

  Is this correct?

Is 20 days the gestation period?

How long should the babies be left in the incubator after they hatch?  What do you feed them and how long will I need to leave them in the brooder?

  Many thanks

  It's a table-top incubator, basic.  No frills.
Also, do you really have to turn them 4 or 5 times daily?

It is best to turn them at least 3 times a day or more, but if you forget just turn them a little later, thats why i use an auto turner made for the incubators that I have

I have nine Gambel's (3 males and 6 hens) in a 15 ft by 30 ft pen and they are doing great this nesting (i.e., enough space and hens so there isn't a lot of fighting).  This is probably more space than people generally provide in their pens but I like my birds to have some space to roam, especially since I am just a hobbyist and get get away with devoting that much pen to so few birds.

They say 21-22 days.  I've got my first batch of Gambel's egg set to hatch this weekend.  I've raised a lot of valley (CA) quail in the past and they typically hatched in 21-22 days, and Gambel's are closely related.  Definitelt keep the egss in a few extra days to be sure as I've had some late chicks pop before.  Good luck!
