Hey guys do you have any input on building chicken pens and quail pens together, I have a good ideal to build 2 chicken pens 8'x16' with a 32'x12' quail flight pen tied into it, the reason is that i can cover both tops with the same netting, just checking who might have any health concerns about this.

my old chicken pens gotta go just to darn old, better money spent incoperating them if possible.

Thanks

By the way I've read some of my sons post hope he doesn't bug y'all to much, He's just extremely excited and off school for Christmas break up at the butt-crack of dawn ready to build stuff, but i wouldn't have it any other way.

To each is own I guess. This subject is like beating a dead horse.... until something happens, and then you find out, that what you either had placed next to the quail pen, or what was put inside with the quail, other then what should be kept with the quail, has or had caused the problem(s).

I heard of people keeping rabbits in the flight pens to keep the birds moving around. Good idea I suppose, until the birds start pecking at the rabbit waste. Next thing you know the birds have picked up worms from the rabbit.

If you want to minimize disease, keep you game birds and pens separated from the other birds, such as chicken, ducks, geese, and turkey.

The troubles come from the fact that chickens can carry a disease that has no effect on them what so ever. But can kill a "game" species.

Good to see your son interested in this new hobby !
I enjoyed it  at his age as well !

Well Reeves that says it all !!!!!!!
And gb your son is welcome here anytime...and since your operation is a hobby one I do not see a big problem with the chicken pens, but what the other guys say about the disease with chickens and quail are right. Anyone with a large operation would not chance chickens close by....
