SHould I put a piece of 1/8" hardware cloth in the hatcher for when the button quail hatch? I noticed some of the coturnix chicks feet went through the 1/4" and I figures since the buttons are smaller I would need a smaller mesh.

I use a piece of that non skid shelf liner in my hatcher.  Easy to clean and allows the moisture through too! It also helps the lttle ones walk easier.

Thanks, I just bought some for the coturnix brooder but it got covered in poop too fast. I switched them to 1/4" hardware cloth. I will just cut a piece off the roll to fit the bottom of the hatcher.

My buttons have done fine on the 1/4" wire.  Watch them though, they are little rockets and can be up and out of the hatcher before  you see them move.
