ok this is going to take abit  to explain

there is a neighbor kid (age 14) that help me im the summer monthes with feeding birds. about 5 weeks ago he wanted me to build a pin so he could buy 50 or so birds just for fun.
trying to be a good guy i talked to his dad  and made him a deal i would build a pin and supply all the food so all he would have to do is feed and water them and then when they got 6 weeks i would sell them and give him some money.
he told me Saturday that some had died (no big deal it happens)well i got a order for 70 birds and there should have been plenty ready . well i went over there and found that over 100 had died ranging from 1 week old to 5 week (each hatch week in a different pin)  r1
the birds all looked the same size and a few looked like they were so weak.  i did notice that there was no food in any of the cages or water
so did they just starve or is there something more here
dont see anything wrong on the outside when you pick them up  you dont feel the meat on the breast nothing but bones and fethers
also i have some out of the same hatches at my house and never lost a one

oh they are jumbo browns

Did you ask the boy if he actually fed and watered them
Never had 100s die at once
Being you said they were bony that would be the educated guess

Have a "chat" with his Dad.

Birds are not being properly cared for.

Let him know animal cruelty is a huge no-no !

2 times a day?    :-|

For starters, it doesn't sound as if the feeders are big enough. Or is he just throwing it on the ground or in a bowl or something? One shouldn't have to feed every day with the appropriate feeders.

I'd say that what you're doing is the best thing..........just bring them home.

Most kids nowadays cant be trusted with respnosibilities and thats a sad thing for this country in many ways
Sorry for your losses
Cut them and remember what you learned and the cost for it
Thats what makes it hard to help people sometimes
Personally i would make that boy pay for every dead bird he would learn a little resposibility then
