Reeves,

Good luck on the new job that you start on Thursday. What happens if the last co boss calls and says: I need you now?

Drive shaft didn't move. No U-bolts. End is a kind of flat plate. Same as yoke.

I too thought temp was high. But on this forum it seems not so much ?
http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f32/differential-temperatures-normal-high-83383/

Truck loaded up right now & is over 10,000 lbs

Your post reference to the rear.

No choice but take it slow !
Week end involved ! Nothing open.
Had to order new U-bolts (not supposed to use old ones due to torque to yield)
Then due to having to change out the backing plates, I had to pull the axles & hubs.
So new hub seals.
One of the junk yard hubs had bad bearings, so used a good one from my diff.

Got it all together & took it for a 4km drive. Crawled under the truck & put my hand on all parts......pinion was warm. Not sure if that is a problem......yet.

PS: new heater going into the shop tomorrow ! No more working in the shop at -40c !

Am I to understand that the "U" bolts that you are talking about is to hold the rear axles to the frame, correct?  If the complete rear including the both axles was swapped out, there could be a possibility that the whole unit could be set forward towards the front of the truck. This could be the cause of excess heat.

The same goes for rear side tracking when the whole rear isn't lined up. Ever see a truck or car going down the road crooked? This is due to the misalignment of the complete rear, where the Axel are connected to the body frame with those huge "U" bolts.

Steve
Yup, U-bolts to the springs. All same parts/diff though. Same measurements.

Changed the transfer case oil. Looked clean & no metal stuff at all.

I have AMA , so when it dies on the road I'll make a call ...... and likely buy a new work truck. Wish we had USA pricing up here !

Reeves,

I paid 42k for the 2012 F150 XL with the 8' bed and the Ecoboost motor. 3.73 gears and 4x4 with the tow package to do the 3000 payload in the bed and 8000 tow.

No power window, no power doors. No heated seat or side mirrors. What is it going to cost to replace what you have??

Prices up here are crazy. Know a guy that traded his Vette in on a new F-350 loaded (King Ranch ?). They gave 40k for the Vette.....but had an 81k sticker on the truck !

Not sure how or why the number shifting. Dealers are a shifty bunch. At least up here.

I will not buy a new truck, unless I get to see the dealer invoice. Then work from there.

If I have time I will stop by & chat with them today.
Lots to do. Sign on with new co. but have to drive 1.5 hr south to do so.
Then home, pack up (providing they start up on Friday) & drive 2 hrs north.
Plus other stuff...

Called on the blue truck. Said he could shave to 60k.....but it's a short box. Said no thanks !

No idea why they make so many short box trucks. Weird idea for a truck !

Thew short box 6 and 5.5 is for the want-a-bees. I could have had the pick of any F150 on the lot, but they were all short beds..

Fords says: make your own truck. BS. I wanted the F150 4X4 ecoboost with 6 speed 3.73'a and the electronic locking rear for posi. they said I would have to get the off road package. Short bed and some other crap I didn't want or need since I didn't go off road.

I wanted a payload of 3000lbs in the bed. I had to get the tow package. I don't tow anything. So I got screwed, and had to get the tow package, otherwise, the standard is 1580 in the bed for payload. I hall over 1 ton of feed a month.

Buying a new F-350 2012 4x4 crew long box. Sterling gray metallic.

If my truck lasts long enough, trade it. If it breaks down before I get back home to pick the new one up, park it till next spring/summer , fix & sell it. Trans going now.
Not hard to tell the warranty is done !  :x

As mentioned, if I didn't get paid to drive the truck, no way would I ever buy new !

She wants huge up-grades to the house & at least one deck. Also glass doors on the back. Starting on that next summer.
Also back yard fenced.
