 Tick Removal

I would think that it would work for Dogs, etc to.

A School Nurse has written the info below -- good enough to share -- And
it really works!!

I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove
a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's
sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle
of a head full of dark hair, etc.

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the
soap-soaked cotton ball and let it stay on the repulsive insect for a few
seconds (15-20), after which the tick will come out on it's own and be
stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked
every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less
traumatic for the patient and easier for me.

Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be
damaging in any way.

Slider, That's how I got it.  But thought it was so good that maybe someone on this site could use it. I haven't tried the process yet but will soon, as the dog is always coming in the house with one or two on him

Also Dawn dishsoap is an excellent dog bath soap for getting rid of fleas. Just give them a good soap down and leave it on for a couple min. and boom their dead and will wash right off..but thats an ole one and every body probably knows that one...

I think Slider meant Dawn for fleas was old (who better to know about old stuff).

I had seen the tick removal e-mail, but forgot it.  It should work fine, I've washed them out of my hair in the shower, with shampoo.  Using liquid anti-bacterial soap in the shower after being in likely tick cover might be a good idea.

I would like to point out that ticks may be repulsive you some people, but are not "insects"  you would think a Nurse would know that.

That's funny, I was just thinking of posting that while reading the first post in this thread.

I might add........when doing this, put a ring of the soap around the dogs neck and work it in to the skin prior to getting the rest of the dog wet, otherwise, the fleas will run to their head and hang out and you'll still have them when the dog dries.  The reason I know this, is because as a kid we had white poodles, it was very easy to see them headed to the dogs head and it would be covered with them if the soap barrier wasn't apllied around the neck first.  I guess this would apply to any dog washing soaps.

As you can see from my post, it has nothing to do with being old!   :x

I thought we determined, back when you got the free feeders, and such, that you couldn't handle the "new stuff"  or was it that the "new stuff" couldn't handle you?

  Or wouldn't?  I forget.
