I bought 20 quail hens in April to release to whistling wild cockbirds. I only have two left. None of the hens laid eggs.
I put my last two birds in a call back cage a month ago to ensure they had enough daylight exposure. I have been feeding them a mix of sunflower, millet, Milo, and cracked corn. Their water contains a vitamin supplement. I supplement with a handful of green red clover every day. Still no eggs.
Do they need exposure to a male to start their egg laying hormones?
