It is my opinion they do best the 2nd year for those birds.

thanks for your reply. I am going to set up a test this spring to hatch eggs from first first year layers and second year layers. am not sure how to set the control groupe just yet.

I just filed it for a future reference, at this point not that big of an operation. When that happens i will be ready.

My own experience is that you'll find better egg production and fertility in the two year olds.
