I live in sw Florida and thought it was warm enough for them to start laying.  It is in the 60's at night and high70's or 80's during the day.  We are feeding Purina layena.  We had to take several males out because the dominate males were beating up the other males.  I have 14 females and 8 males left in the pen together.  Some females are digging holes and sitting in them.  I have a nesting box in there and they make nests, but no eggs.

How long have they been doing this?
I also have bobwhites and there doing the same thing I took out eight males because they killed one and pecked the crap of unother.
they make nests and one sits in there almost all day. mine have been doing this for about a week and a half.

I heard that sometimes a dominent bobwhite hen will take over a nest box and keep others from laying in it.

well I got my first egg today.  The egg was not in my nesting boxes it was on  the ground.  I have my nesting boxes up on a cinder block do I need to put it on the ground or will they nest in the boxes off the ground?  Also I need to know how I store the eggs before I incubate them What temp do I need to keep them at?  Do I need to turn them?

you can save them for 7-10 days. yes turn them .  and keep them at 45-50 degrees,  a small old fridge would work  like the small ones they use in doorms.  or in a basement were it is cool.  there are other posts that spell it all out.

Mine lay eggs where ever they feel like it, I couldn't imagine getting one to lay an egg in a "box".  I'm in Ohio and mine have been laying for about 4 days now.

I took the box off the the cinder block and put it on the ground and put 2 eggs they laid in there to maybe help them lay in there, and I went in there to check on my eggs today and they were gone.
