OK so I think that a mink got into one of my chukar pens....I think it is a mink because he killed all of the birds and the only place i think he could of gotten into was a partially open door, i am right, a mink can't chew through wire and they can't really dig exspeacially because the ground is frozen and I have wire buried a foot deep..well I will go and make sure that there is no other way that he got in. My questions is will this mink return, again tonight? My idea is that I am going leave some of the dead chukar in the pen and make sure everything is secure and see if he still gets in and I am also going to put a live trap will a dead chukar along side the pens so I might catch him (don't worry I will kill if I get him). So does this sound that it might work and any help is aprreciated this is my first predator attack. Thanks

Hi,
I'm sorry that all of your birds were killed, in my opinion the mink will return either tonight or later on. Once a predator spots prey they're not going to go away and forget about it, there going to come back. Yeah its a good idea to set up a couple traps. Maybe a couple traps in different areas to have a better chance of success.  This should work but if it doesn't i bet there are other solutions to this problem. Good Luck and sorry for your losses.

Had some species of weasel through pens n' such last night. Nothing can get in the "houses" at night though, not even a mouse.
Likely an Ermine. Had one living in a compot heap all winter, two winters ago as well. Never did get that one.

However, if you have a Mink (also a member of the weasel family) that is another matter ! Nasty ! If it is that, or maybe a Martin, you really need to trap it ASAP.
Try calling some trappers to see if they can help you out.

I went through that in the early part of this year. I caught it in a hava-hart-box trap. I set the trap up where he was going in from. After catching it I called the DNR and had them relocate.

I understand I just had a mink (pretty sure) kill my female duck (She was a really good layer too). It killed it in my yard while I let them out of the pen to run around for the day. After killing it it just ate the neck, I think my German Shepard scared it off though. He pretty good about keeping an eye on the birds, he was raised with them and is very protective.
