When you are manually turning eggs in the incubator do they have to be completely rotated or can you just raise 1 side of the tray, then raise the other, etc. until you've raised all 4 sides. I'm new so any infor will help

You would only have to lift two (opposite) sides.  However, they should be tilted 45 degrees, each way, so most small incubators don't have enough room.  Automatic turners sound pretty good, don't they?

If you put the eggs in the plastic hatching trays, and use trays for larger eggs (Chukar trays for Quail) you can run your hand across the rows of eggs, and turn them faster.

I bought the auto egg turner for two reasons. First most of what's been said here that eggs should be turned four times a day. I'm not home during the day so would miss at least one turn a day. Second, unless I numbered each egg I'm certain I'd miss one or more each time.
The auto turner is worth the price!
