Title: building a quail pen
Post by: Dixie on August 14, 2004, 03:48:37 AM
i'm going to build a quail pen at the side of my house but their is a wall  that we are thinking about conecting it to but we have some neighborhood cats that like to sit on them could i put spikes or barbed wire on the wall to keep the cats from geting into the cage. i own a bird dog (thats what the birds are for) and i don't want her to get out of her container and get to the birds could i put some wood about 3 feet high so they can't see each other and stress out the quail or have her eat them. could there be some problems with vertilation (the rest of the cage would have mesh on it). i know of some plants that are supposed to get rid of dogs in a area could i put them infront of the cage or would they irritate the birds? one more question how much heat can bobwhite quail take it can get up to 115 in the summer sould i put a fan out with them or bring them in the house? thank you for responding :D

My hubby builds the pens but if you are really interested you should read the postings in the brooding and raising forum and in the incubation in fact there is a little about building pens and requirements for birds in almost every forum on this site. You just have to have the patience to read them. Sorry I could not be more help, but you have many questions that have already been answered somewhere on this site.
