Most grouse are kinda hard to keep alive. Ya dont see them around much. Dont know if its diet or theyre more susceptible to disease. Ruffed grouse are easiest but there arent that many around, even of them.

I can gurantee you will not find chicks or eggs for that matter. Noone will sell them. You will only find sub-adults or breeders. They will breed thier first year, so if you want chicks your best bet is get a pair and try to breed them. I may know a fellow who might still have some available if your interstd. This is not the best time of year to get them. Late summer is the best time to look.

If it's impossible to buy grouse eggs. The it must be legal to trap them at some point of the year and breed them in captivity?

I believe (at least in Pa) the only time legal to take grouse from the wild is Hunting Season. And they don't have nests during hunting season. So technically it is illegal to take eggs from the wild. You may trap them during hunting season (don't quoe me)but then again if you don't have a permit to keep them(alive) or prove where they come from you again may be getting yourself into trouble. Your best bet is buying birds from someone witha permit. Much easier then hiking the bush for days trying to find a nest or for that matter capture a live bird.

Hi,
Was wondering if you keep the male and female grouse together year round or do you seperate them after breeding season? Do you always keep grouse on wire etc? Thanks!
