I  keep a few northern bobwhite quail as pets, but they aren't allowed in my house. I go out and talk with them and they come right up to you. I mainly keep them because there are not any around anymore like there use to be. I loved to hear them calling.

Thats cute. Do you keep it in like a cage bird pen in the house?

I used to have a pair of parakeets in the house and I have always though that quail would be just as good as a parakeet if you hand raised them.

Our pet gamble quail has a small indoor enclosure with all the amenities a quail could ask for constructed using many useful tips from That Quail Place. She gets daily flight time indoors.  She was the only one to hatch from a batch of discarded eggs.  She imprinted on us firmly but was attacked by the wild quail when allowed outdoors.  So she is an indoor pet now.  Very intelligent, bossy and full of humorous surprises.  Her current favorite activity is to noisily peck around Ping-Pong balls in the master bathroom.
Atypical but good for us all none the less. :)
