Put them all in one big pen now..let the hens pick their own mate. You will see them start staying together about 1 month before breeding season place each pair in a seperate pen. It does not have to be real big mine are 2ft. X 3ft. They do really good that way and lay like crazy if fed the gamebird breeder. Mine laid as long as the Bobwhites did.

Was raising the chicks as easy as the bobs are.
Any problems with them.
I had read somewhere that their hips were more fragile??????

Larry, I had no problem with the chicks. I would start them out on hard boiled eggs sprinkled with kelp and made sure that they were all eating then I grind gb starter and mixed some kelp with it and started them on a good electrolites and vitamins in the water. I really think that they are one of the easier gb`s to raise.

Sounds good. I am a firm believer in the boiled egg yolks. I feed them to all chicks for first 2 weeks

KLAN29 you can get it from the Easy Chicken Poultry and Supply in a 2 lb. bag. They have a website and the owners name is Scott and Kelly. It is dried and ground up.I have been using it for years and it really gives your chicks a boost. If you have any problem contacting them just let me know. Good Luck

What do you mean boost. I use gamebird starter and it seems to work. Does this boost make them quicker growing, feathering or what. Just wondering

Better nutritional start and a little more energy the first few days.

Larry I hatch mine with the Valley Quail eggs and have always had a good hatch with them and even brooded them together. They are one of the easiest gamebird chicks to raise that I have come across. The only problem with brooding them with the Valley quail is they tend to be more wild  but when I seperate them to grow out they seem to settle down when placed in there own groups.
