I have been wondering when the wild easterns I have would start laying.  Question answered.  I went out to check on them this morning and had 2 frozen eggs in the pen.  Temperature was -4ºF.  The trigger is light, not temperature I have been told.  I believe it now!

We've been down to -25ºF this winter, infact in the past 36 days, the morning temps have been below zero and they are fine.  I shovel snow into the pen and they eat it.  I also have a heated dog dish for additional water and keep the feed coming and they have been just fine.  The perch fell down a couple of months ago and I've left it down, read the best place in on straw on the ground rather than hanging their toes in to cold.
