At least I think they are Gambels. I have at least 9 young running around my back yard. If someone could answer my questions, I would really appreciate it!
I think they hatched two or three days ago. How long before the babies can get out of my yard? The only way out for them is my 6 foot fence. I have dogs and cats but noone is going out until the quail can get away from them.
The nest is in my compost bin. Will they return to the nest or can I turn my compost? I thought it was very considerate of the mom quail to put the egg shells in the bin for me! :D
Should I do anything for them? Water? What do they eat?
Thanks for any advise...I would like to see as many of these babies survive as possible.

well all you should do is sit back and enjoy them. they will leave the yard eventually. But i wouldnt interfere in fear of scaring the mother off.

taking a three day weekend to quail hunt with your dog---------priceless

remember a bad day hunting is better than a good day working.
