Title: Newbie: Males and Females?
Post by: Robinsong on May 05, 2010, 01:53:18 PM
My son wants to raise about 8 to 10 bobwhites.  Does he have to have a certain ratio of males to females, or doesn't it matter?  We've heard both sides, from "bobwhites don't fight, so it doesn't matter how many males and females you have" to "you can't have more than one or two males BWs in with a group this size or there will be deaths."  Can you straighten us out?

Thanks,
Robin

I have leftovers every year in the flight pen with no problem. I think when you have a confined area is where you get into trouble??

We have a flight pen that's about 8' by 8', and we're working on finding or building a shed or box or something else for shelter.  Maybe a box 4' by 4' or a 6' by 8' shed with a box inside it that opens onto the flight pen.  That should be big enough, don't you think?

Thanks,
Robin
