Hi,

We just bought a dozen quail for dog training a couple of weeks ago.  We released 11 of them and placed 1 in a recall cage 3 days ago.  None have come back and the call bird is not even calling.  We have bought birds from the same place before and we had the same situation.  Also, the birds don't fly, they just run.  So does anyone know of a reputable bobwhite quail farm in northeast Pennsylvania that produces good flight birds?  Thank you very much.

A few questions
How old are the birds when you get them?

How long have they been in the flight pen?

How long did you leave them in the recall pen before you released them?

Answering these questions may allow me to help you

wolfe's gamebird hatchery in Brookville, PA.  here is the number 814-849-3430. I have called him on the phone and he is very happy to help. If need be I could even help you get the birds.

Sounds to me like the birds were older birds that have had way too much human contact.   I have found that younger birds tend to call much more then the older ones.  I have 6 week old quail in the flight pen for 2 weeks.  We released 3 for training and got them all back within 6 hours.  Unfortunately I am located in Southwest Pennsylvania and not in the Northeast.

thanks
Dave

Also leave a Male rather then female in the pen.
